It Worked in the Demo: Web Components, SDC, and What Happened Next
Time: Thursday 14th May 15:30-16:00
Room: Waterfront
Track: Web Tools & Complementary Technologies
This session explores the difference between reusable UI components, browser-native Web Components, and JavaScript framework components, using Drupal Single Directory Components as the connection point.
It reflects on a practical experiment with SDC and a Web Component library, then asks what happens after the demo works. How can this approach support a more sustainable Drupal upgrade path? Can reusable, tested components help site builders and business users safely create richer pages, while reducing the need for developers to patch CSS or rebuild themes for every new feature?
The focus is not only on technology but also on team balance: Drupal developers building reliable component foundations, and site builders using those components to extend Drupal in a safer, more maintainable way.
