Automated AI Testing with Postman
Track: Web Tools & Complementary Technologies
The Building Information Gateway (BIG) is a digital document library for the building and construction industry. It provides Australian Standards, the National Construction Code, licensing, legislation, codes of practice and supplier resources. The aims of BIG are to improve the quality of work by bringing these reference materials together in one place, at an affordable cost.
A BIG AI LLM is being by developed Technocrat using their CarbonAI product. This AI allows users to ask detailed and specific questions in a chat format about any topic in the library. The AI helps users find the relevant documents to get their answers, in the full context of the source material.
Postman is a powerful tool for building, testing, and documenting APIs but it is useful for automated testing of any web requests. Tests can be recorded and scripted, organised into collections, and run inside Postman. Newman is the command-line companion for Postman. It enables users to run Postman collections and tests directly from the terminal or integrate into CI/CD pipelines, making a flexible and cost effective automated testing and monitoring system.
Our DrupalSouth presentation will focus on the design and development of our automated AI testing process using Postman and Newman:
- The process of developing test cases
- Recording the scenarios in Chrome
- Preparing the Postman collection
- Analysing the JSON response in Postman
- Preparing the test cases as csv files
- Adding variables in Postman
- Writing test scripts in Postman
- Running the tests in Postman
- Adding new information to the tests
- Running the tests on the command line with Newman
