DrupalSouth Shorts 2021: Drupal@20
DrupalSouth Shorts is our online-only event format. New for 2021, with shorter formats, topical content and the opportunity ask questions and interact online.
Drupal is celebrating 20 years of community-driven innovation, having touched millions of lives over two decades. Did you know that half a million websites are powered by Drupal? Or that our community is made up of more than 30,000 active code contributors plus hundreds of thousands of end users? That’s cause to celebrate!
During DrupalSouth ‘Shorts’, we’ll celebrate the past 20 years, delve into opportunities with Drupal in the present and share the roadmap for Drupal 10 and beyond - we have many bright years to come! Sessions will come in all shapes and sizes, from strategic presentations to roundtables for ideas sharing and technical deep dives.
What’s included:
- Practical insights into how new digital technologies can support business goals
- Learn how to accelerate your organisation’s digital capabilities using Drupal

November Keynote - Drupal 10 & beyond with Lee Rowlands!
By the time DrupalSouth comes around in November, Drupal 8 will be end of life at 6 years old and Drupal 9 is fast approaching its 2nd birthday.
With this in mind we look to our next major release, Drupal 10, which will be released in 2022 as per the release schedule. Why are the major Drupal release cycles getting shorter and is this something we can expect to continue? What's driving these shorter cycles and how can you help contribute to them?
These questions and more will be addressed in this session, as well as a look at what we can expect to see in Drupal 10... and beyond!
Bio: Lee Rowlands has 20 years development experience with PHP, is a member of the Drupal Security Team and maintains the forum, comment, contact and block content modules in Drupal core along with at least 30 contrib projects. He is also the framework manager for Drupal core and Australia’s most prolific individual contributor to the Drupal project.
August Keynote - Dries Buytaert live!
Someone who should need no introduction, Drupal project founder, Dries Buytaert, kicked off the August event with a live conversation about Drupal in its 20th year and the future ahead.
With a live "fireside chat" covering the big themes for Drupal in 2021 and a vision for the future, this was a chance for Australia and New Zealand Drupalists to hear answers to some burning questions.
